This is an annotated history of Joseph Smith, with notes giving or referring to some modern research into the events narrated by Joseph Smith and his clerks. The base text is that of the History of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, edited by B. H. Roberts from the manuscript history produced by Willard Richards, George A. Smith and their assistants and finished in 1858. Roberts's original notes are preserved in this new version, but corrections and many additions are given.
The completed text of this annotated history extends from 1805 to 1833. Volume one of Roberts's history contains the bulk of the revelations of Joseph Smith currently found in the Doctrine and Covenants of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Those interested in these revelations and their textual history should consult the chapters in this work and for more formal work see, josephsmithpapers.org Documents volumes. To see the revelations and some notes about them here check the chapters below with the dates corresponding to the dates of those revelations where they appear in full with corresponding notes. The original source material for the manuscript history is found at the Joseph Smith Papers website, josephsmithpapers.org. Roberts's based his text on an earlier text published as a serial in the LDS British Mission periodical, The Millennial Star ca 1862.
Readers may also consult, The Parallel Joseph which contains the original sources for a number of documents appearing in the History.
