Instructions delivered at the General Conference of the Church at Nauvoo, Ill. on October 3, 1840 (Saturday Afternoon)
Source: Times and Seasons 1 (October 1840):186

Temple to be Built in Nauvoo

The president then spoke of the necessity of building a "House of the Lord" in this place. 1

Notes

1. The necessity of a temple follows the pattern set at previous headquarters. By December, quarrying for building stone was well underway with tithing labor instituted. This action would be reinforced by a revelation the following January (D&C 124).
